Tallahassee, FL — Residents in North Florida are bracing for freezing temperatures overnight as a Freeze Watch remains in effect. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are possible in the Big Bend and Panhandle areas from late Saturday night into Sunday morning.
According to the NWS, areas including Leon County, Tallahassee, and neighboring regions could experience widespread frost, potentially damaging unprotected crops, sensitive vegetation, and outdoor plumbing. The advisory highlights that frost could begin developing after midnight and persist through sunrise Sunday. Residents are urged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and wrap exposed pipes to prevent damage.
The cold front will bring continued chilly conditions for the week ahead. Sunday will see sunny skies with highs near 61 degrees, followed by clear and frosty nights, with temperatures dipping into the 30s Monday and Tuesday. Another frost event is likely early Tuesday morning before a slight warm-up midweek, with highs in the low 60s.
Travelers on major roadways like I-10 and U.S. Route 27 should exercise caution due to potentially slick early-morning conditions caused by frost.
Stay updated on weather changes and ensure proper preparation. Temperatures this low are uncommon for the region and require extra care to prevent property and agricultural losses.
