DeFuniak Springs, FL – A hard freeze warning remains in effect across the Florida Panhandle tonight, with temperatures expected to drop to 24°F. The National Weather Service issued the advisory early Saturday morning, urging residents to prepare for bitterly cold conditions and potential hazards.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the freeze warning applies from 10 p.m. tonight through 9 a.m. Sunday. Counties affected include Holmes, Jackson, and North Walton. A concurrent cold weather advisory predicts wind chill values plunging to 20°F in the same areas.

These conditions pose risks to crops, vegetation, and outdoor plumbing. The NWS advises residents to wrap outdoor pipes, drain sprinklers, and allow faucets to drip slowly to avoid freezing. Pets should be brought indoors, while outdoor animals require dry, warm shelters, food, and unfrozen water.

Local officials recommend wearing layered clothing, hats, and gloves to minimize exposure during outdoor activities. Special attention should be given to older neighbors, friends, and family members who may need assistance. Portable heaters should be used safely, with clear airflow to avoid fire hazards.

Hard freezes in the region can significantly impact agriculture, particularly citrus and other tender crops. Residents are encouraged to protect plants with coverings and monitor local updates for additional safety measures.

With temperatures expected to climb only after mid-morning Sunday, prolonged exposure can lead to hypothermia or frostbite. Drivers should exercise caution, as freezing conditions may create icy roads.
