MIAMI, FL — South Florida residents are urged to prepare for gusty winds and hazardous beach conditions as Tropical Storm Rafael moves north through the Caribbean. The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory, in effect through early Wednesday morning, cautioning against potential power outages and unsecured outdoor items that may blow away.
According to the National Weather Service Miami, gusty conditions are anticipated to reach speeds of 40 mph along the coast, especially impacting areas from Miami up through Palm Beach. The storm system, currently located south of Jamaica, is projected to strengthen into a hurricane and approach the Gulf of Mexico by mid-week. Although Florida is not directly in its path, Rafael’s periphery will continue to affect local conditions with higher rain chances and gusty winds.
Extended Forecast:
• Wednesday: Expect showers, with a 50% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs near 83°F, with east winds at 23 to 26 mph.
• Thursday: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the low 80s, with lingering southeast winds.
• Friday: Mostly sunny and breezy, temperatures reaching around 83°F as Rafael’s effects subside.
Precautionary Actions:
Residents should secure any loose objects outdoors and use caution while driving, particularly on open roadways like I-95. Those heading to coastal areas should be mindful of hazardous rip currents, posing a risk for beachgoers through Wednesday night.
Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for ongoing updates as the storm progresses and South Florida feels its peripheral impacts.
