TALLAHASSEE, FL — A cold weather advisory is in effect tonight across Florida’s Big Bend, with wind chills as low as 19 degrees expected by early Friday morning. Residents are advised to dress warmly and limit outdoor exposure.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory begins at 1 a.m. EST and will last through 9 a.m. Friday. Areas impacted include Tallahassee, Apalachicola, and portions of south-central Georgia. Prolonged exposure to these temperatures can lead to hypothermia. Officials urge people to wear layered clothing and keep pets and vulnerable family members indoors.
Friday will see an afternoon high of 61 degrees, but rain chances increase significantly after 1 p.m., leading to showers by the evening. Rainfall amounts are expected to stay under one inch, but wet roads could lead to hazardous driving conditions.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring partly sunny skies and cooler temperatures with a high near 50 degrees and widespread frost overnight. Sunday’s forecast indicates more sunshine with highs climbing to 53 degrees, though another frosty morning is expected.
Temperatures will remain below the seasonal average of 60–65 degrees through midweek. Monday and Tuesday will feature highs near 60 with mostly sunny skies, while lows dip into the mid-30s.
Drivers are advised to use caution during rain Friday evening and prepare for icy wind chills overnight. Check your heating systems and ensure outdoor pets have adequate shelter. For the latest updates, visit weather.gov or tune in to your local forecast.
