Tallahassee, FL – A significant cold snap is set to bring freezing rain and widespread frost to North Florida starting Thursday night. Temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-30s, with conditions particularly hazardous along I-10 and local roads during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a low chance of freezing rain beginning early Friday morning. Any frozen precipitation is expected to be brief, but temperatures will remain cold enough to cause icy patches on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Daytime highs through Sunday will hover in the low 50s, while overnight lows will consistently drop near or below freezing. Friday night will also bring rain and a possible thunderstorm, with a 100% chance of precipitation starting after sunset.

Saturday and Sunday mornings are forecast to bring widespread frost, particularly before 9 a.m. Outdoor plants and pets should be protected from the freezing conditions. Frost may persist on vehicles and lawns through the early morning hours, requiring extra preparation for residents.

Looking ahead to next week, slightly warmer conditions are expected, with highs in the mid-50s and lows in the upper 30s by Monday. Rain chances decrease after Friday night, offering a sunny start to the new week.
