Jacksonville, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a frost advisory for inland northeast Florida and southeast Georgia. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 33 degrees early Wednesday morning.
The advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday. According to the NWS, frost formation is likely, potentially damaging sensitive outdoor plants. Residents in Suwannee, Baker, Union, Bradford, and surrounding areas should take immediate precautions to protect vulnerable vegetation.
Frost advisories signal a risk to crops and outdoor plants, which could suffer damage or die if not covered. Homeowners are advised to bring potted plants indoors and use frost cloths or blankets to shield gardens.
The colder air, combined with calm winds, creates ideal conditions for frost. Temperatures are expected to remain just above freezing, but frost can still form under these circumstances.
NWS meteorologist Nelson stated, “Residents in both northern Florida and southeast Georgia should take protective measures. Frost formation can happen even with temperatures slightly above freezing, especially in low-lying areas.”
This advisory comes as unseasonably cold weather moves across the southeastern United States. Forecasts show daytime highs rebounding to the 50s by Wednesday afternoon, offering some relief from the cold snap.
