Central and Western New York – Heavy rainfall continues to threaten parts of central and western New York today, with the National Weather Service issuing flood watches for multiple counties through this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the flood watch remains in effect until 2 p.m. EDT for areas including Cortland, Madison, Northern Oneida, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Southern Oneida, Steuben, Tompkins, and Yates counties. Moderate rainfall is expected to continue through the day, with additional downpours possibly moving into Steuben County later this morning. A total of 1 to 3 inches of rain has already fallen over the past 12 hours, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, such as urban regions and small streams.

For other areas in central and western New York, the flood watch is in effect until Wednesday morning. This includes Monroe, Wayne, Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Ontario, and Allegany counties. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with localized areas possibly seeing heavier rainfall. This could lead to flash flooding, especially in regions with saturated ground.

Residents should remain vigilant and be prepared to act if flash flood warnings are issued later today. Drivers should avoid flooded roads, and those in flood-prone areas should consider alternative routes or stay indoors if necessary.
