Memphis, TN – A Flood Watch and Wind Advisory have been issued for Memphis and surrounding areas due to a series of severe weather conditions that are expected to impact the region through Thursday. The National Weather Service (NWS) Memphis office issued these warnings on April 2, 2025, as the Mid-South braces for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible thunderstorms over the coming days.
According to the NWS, the Flood Watch remains in effect from April 2 until 1:00 PM CDT on April 6, with up to 8 inches of rain expected in some areas, possibly leading to river flooding. The storm system may bring dangerous, life-threatening conditions across several counties in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Residents are urged to monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to take action if flooding develops.
In addition to the flood risk, a Wind Advisory is in effect until midnight on April 3. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph in some areas, particularly in portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and local Tennessee counties. These winds may cause property damage and power outages, so residents are advised to secure outdoor objects.
Severe thunderstorms with the potential for tornadoes are also expected through Thursday night. The NWS predicts that some storms could produce hail and heavy rainfall, leading to further flooding risks. The high temperatures throughout the period will range from 60°F to 85°F, contributing to the severity of these storms.
The NWS urges residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions, including avoiding driving on flooded roads and securing loose objects outdoors. The weather situation will be closely monitored, and additional updates will be provided as necessary.
