Raleigh, NC – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for excessive rainfall and severe thunderstorms throughout this evening and overnight. Areas in northern North Carolina, including Raleigh, are expected to experience strong storms, flash flooding, and damaging winds.
According to the NWS, thunderstorms will develop across western North Carolina and move eastward through the Piedmont. Some storms may become severe, bringing threats of large hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes. Residents are urged to stay informed and prepare for potential power outages.
Additionally, flash flooding is a major concern in urban areas, especially those prone to poor drainage and low-lying regions. The heaviest rainfalls are expected from late afternoon through early Wednesday.
