Columbia, SC – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued flash flood warnings for parts of South Carolina’s Midlands and Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) as heavy rain sweeps across the region. Officials have reported minor flooding in Aiken and Orangeburg counties, urging residents to remain vigilant.
According to the NWS, rainfall intensified Tuesday evening, leading to flash flood warnings until at least 9:15 p.m. Wednesday. The areas under alert include Aiken, Windsor, and New Ellenton. With population exposure reaching over 120,000 residents, the warning affects 37 schools and two hospitals, highlighting the importance of immediate safety precautions.
Authorities advise residents to avoid driving or walking through flooded areas, as even minor flooding can quickly become dangerous. Officials urge anyone witnessing significant flooding to report it, helping authorities monitor and respond to evolving conditions.
