Little Rock, AR – A flash flood warning has been issued for several central Arkansas counties, with severe weather conditions expected to impact roads and low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms have been producing heavy rain across the region, with between 1 and 2 inches falling within the past hour. The warning affects Lonoke County, northwestern Prairie County, White County, and southwestern Jackson County, including cities such as Jacksonville, Cabot, and Searcy. The warning will remain in effect until 3:45 AM CDT.
The flash flooding is already underway or is expected to begin soon, causing hazardous conditions on roads, highways, and underpasses. Areas with poor drainage are particularly vulnerable, and residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets.
Authorities caution that flash flooding could affect urban areas as well as rural roads, especially along small creeks and streams. The National Weather Service advises, “Turn around, don’t drown,” as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
Drivers and residents in affected areas should remain alert and take necessary precautions until the warning expires.
