Albuquerque, NM – Southeastern New Mexico faces a significant flash flood risk this weekend as storms are forecasted to bring heavy rainfall across the region. Meteorologists estimate that parts of Chaves County, including Roswell and Clovis, could see up to 6 inches of rain by Sunday evening. Local authorities urge residents to avoid travel on flood-prone roadways and to stay informed about rapidly changing weather conditions.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Albuquerque, heavy rains began overnight in eastern Chaves County, with radar indicating widespread accumulation between 1 and 3 inches. Additional downpours are expected over the same areas this afternoon and evening, elevating the flash flood threat across southeastern New Mexico. Road closures and delays may occur, and emergency services are advising the public to avoid low-lying areas that are prone to quick flooding.

The forecast for the rest of the weekend indicates a high probability of showers extending into Sunday afternoon. Temperatures are expected to peak near 60°F, with cloudy skies dominating. Sunday night may see continued rain with lows around 37°F. As the week progresses, skies will begin to clear, with Monday and Tuesday expected to be partly cloudy, and daytime highs reaching the upper 50s.

Those traveling on rural roads or through low-lying areas should remain cautious and watch for updated weather advisories. In case of flash flooding, avoid driving through flooded roadways and move to higher ground immediately.

Be sure to stay tuned to local weather updates and prepare for potential disruptions as the storms move through the area.
