Binghamton, NY – Residents across Central New York are being warned of a small risk for flash flooding as heavy rain persists today, especially east of I-81. Walton and Cooks Falls are expected to reach minor flood stage, while areas along the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers may approach action stage.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall combined with melting snow is increasing localized flooding concerns through Wednesday night. Rain will transition to snow as temperatures drop sharply after sunset. Slick roads are expected, particularly at higher elevations.
Today’s high will reach 51°F before falling into the mid-20s overnight. An additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain is forecast, intensifying in the afternoon. Drivers should prepare for low visibility, ponding on roadways, and icy conditions as snow develops tonight.
Looking ahead, Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high near 29°F, but frigid lows around 16°F are expected overnight. Friday remains sunny with similar highs. The weekend may bring a mix of snow and rain late Saturday into Sunday, with temperatures climbing back into the 40s by the start of next week.
Residents near rivers should monitor water levels closely and heed any local flood advisories. Report road hazards and flooding to local authorities.
