Huntsville, AL – A flash flood warning is in effect for multiple counties in northern Alabama and southern Tennessee until 9:30 p.m. CDT Saturday as heavy rainfall continues to impact the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, thunderstorms have already dropped between 1 and 2 inches of rain across affected areas, with an additional 1 to 2 inches expected in the coming hours. Flash flooding is either ongoing or anticipated, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
The warning includes Limestone, Madison, and Morgan counties in Alabama, as well as portions of Franklin, Lincoln, and Moore counties in Tennessee. Major cities such as Huntsville, Decatur, Madison, and Athens are at risk. In Cullman County and parts of northeastern Alabama, including Scottsboro and Arab, officials are also urging caution as water levels rise.
The primary hazards include rapid flooding of small creeks and streams, urban roadways, and underpasses. Authorities warn that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles and advise residents to avoid flooded roads.
Residents in the affected areas should monitor weather updates, be prepared for potential evacuations, and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services are on standby as the situation develops.
