Flagstaff, AZ – The 2024-25 winter season in Flagstaff ranks as the sixth-lowest snowfall season recorded through January 15 since 1898. Snowfall totals have reached just 2.8 inches, far below the city’s average of 90.1 inches annually.

The National Weather Service Flagstaff confirmed this ranking, noting ties with the 1935-36 season. Historically, the lowest snowfall for the same period occurred in 2005-06, with only 0.1 inches through mid-January. Experts point out that past years with low snow through January often ended with well-below-average seasonal totals.

Flagstaff’s lack of snowfall raises concerns for water resources and tourism, which rely on heavier precipitation. Snowfall plays a critical role in replenishing reservoirs and supporting local ski resorts.

While seasonal totals could still increase, the trend remains concerning. Forecasters suggest a shift in weather patterns might bring more snow in the coming weeks. For now, Flagstaff residents and businesses prepare for another possible year of limited snowfall.
