Green Bay, WI – Thanksgiving travelers across Wisconsin should prepare for hazardous road conditions as temperatures plummet and snow flurries hit northern counties. A mix of lake effect snow and sub-zero wind chills could create slick highways, especially along Highway 29 and other major routes.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop as low as 19°F on Thanksgiving night, with gusty winds producing wind chills below zero. Snow accumulation of up to three inches is possible in far north-central Wisconsin by Thursday night, with scattered snow flurries likely across the region throughout the day.
For those planning outdoor activities or travel, dressing in layers and allowing extra time for road trips is advised. Winds out of the northwest will reach speeds of up to 20 mph, potentially reducing visibility on open highways.
The extended forecast shows the cold trend continuing into the weekend. Friday’s high will peak at 27°F, with overnight lows dropping into the mid-teens. Saturday offers little relief, with highs near 26°F and partly sunny skies. Sunday’s weather will remain frigid, though mostly clear, with a high of 31°F.
Drivers should also monitor local updates for potential icy conditions overnight and ensure vehicles are winter-ready. Road crews will likely be out treating major thoroughfares such as Highway 29 and I-43, but secondary roads may remain slippery.
Stay tuned to local forecasts for further updates and prepare for a chilly start to the holiday weekend.
