Firefighters Quickly Contain Blaze in Aurora Multi-Family Home

Aurora, IL – A fire in a multi-family building on Plaza Place displaced four adult residents Friday afternoon.

According to the Aurora Fire Department, a 911 call reported a basement fire at 2:37 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find thick smoke and upgraded the response to a second alarm, deploying four engine companies, two truck companies, three medic units, and two chief officers.

Engine Company 4 and Truck Company 6 were first on the scene, encountering heavy smoke from the front and rear. They advanced into the building, with Truck Company 6 locating the fire in the basement. Medic 5 assisted in ensuring no occupants were inside. Engine Company 12 provided water support, while Engine Company 9 checked for fire extension. Both tasks proved negative for further fire or victims.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes, but crews remained on the scene for a couple of hours to ensure no fire extension. Victim Services assisted the displaced residents. No injuries were reported, and the fire remains under investigation by the Aurora Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team.
