Pendleton, OR – A cold front will move through south central and southeast Oregon on Friday, bringing increased fire weather risks. Breezy to windy conditions are expected throughout the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pendleton, low humidity will contribute to elevated fire concerns, especially in areas like the John Day Basin and Ochoco-John Day Highlands. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and report any new fires or unsafe activities.

Windy conditions can worsen the spread of wildfires, especially with dry vegetation already in place. The NWS warned that trailer chains must be secured to avoid sparking new fires. Despite the heightened risks, the impact of this front is not expected to be as severe as last Sunday’s event.

Elevated fire weather will persist into the evening, making it critical for residents to remain cautious. The areas at highest risk will experience the lowest humidity levels, making fire prevention efforts even more important in south central and southeast Oregon.
