Normal, IL – The Normal Police Department has issued a warning about an ongoing phone scam targeting local residents. Scammers are impersonating officers and claiming individuals have unpaid parking tickets, threatening arrest if payments aren’t made.

According to the Normal Police Department’s Facebook post, scammers have been using the name of Sgt. Cherry, the day shift supervisor, to add legitimacy to their calls. The department emphasized that they would never contact residents about unpaid parking tickets in this manner.

Authorities advise residents to hang up if asked to pay fines using credit cards, gift cards, or wiring money, as these are clear indicators of a scam. The police stressed the importance of staying vigilant and reporting any suspicious calls to the authorities.
