Norman, OK – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for northwest Oklahoma on Thursday, followed by a Fire Weather Watch for much of western and central Oklahoma and parts of North Texas on Friday, as strong winds and low humidity create dangerous wildfire conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. CDT Thursday for Harper, Woods, Ellis, and Woodward counties. Winds are expected to reach 20 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Humidity levels may drop as low as 15%, and temperatures could rise to 80 degrees, increasing the fire risk.

The Fire Weather Watch, in effect Friday morning through Friday evening, expands the alert to all of western and central Oklahoma and western North Texas, including Foard, Knox, and Baylor counties. Winds will be stronger, reaching 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. Relative humidity could fall as low as 10%, with temperatures climbing to 83 degrees. These conditions could lead to rapidly spreading wildfires.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and be cautious with any activities that could spark a fire. Fire crews are on high alert, and further updates are expected as conditions evolve.
