Goodland, KS — A cold weather advisory remains in effect across parts of Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska, with dangerously low wind chills persisting through Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, temperatures could feel as low as 24 degrees below zero until 10 a.m. Sunday. An extreme cold watch will then take effect this afternoon, lasting through Tuesday, with wind chills potentially plummeting to 25 degrees below zero.

The affected areas include Yuma, Kit Carson, Cheyenne, Sherman, and Wallace counties in Colorado and Kansas, as well as Dundy County in Nebraska. Cities such as Goodland, Burlington, and Bird City are expected to experience the most severe conditions.

Officials warn that frostbite can occur within 30 minutes of exposure to these extreme temperatures. Prolonged exposure can lead to hypothermia. Residents are advised to insulate or drain water pipes to prevent freezing, ensure outdoor animals have adequate shelter, and avoid using grills or generators indoors.

Those in the region should monitor weather updates and take precautions to stay warm. Vulnerable populations, such as older adults and pets, should be prioritized for safety checks.

The extreme cold watch is expected to end by late Tuesday morning.
