Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service has issued Extreme Cold Warnings for several West Virginia counties, with wind chills as low as 13° below zero expected in some areas through 8 a.m. Thursday.
In Northwest Randolph, Southeast Fayette, Southeast Nicholas, and Southeast Raleigh Counties, wind chills will drop to 13° below zero between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday. For Southeast Webster, Northwest Pocahontas, and Southeast Randolph Counties, the warning extends until 8 a.m. Thursday, with wind chills potentially reaching a dangerous 25° below zero.
According to the National Weather Service, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes under these conditions. Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and take precautions to protect pets and livestock. Prevent frozen pipes by insulating them or allowing faucets to drip.
