Pittsburgh, PA – A prolonged Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, with wind chills as low as 25 below zero expected to impact higher elevations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Affected areas include the higher elevations of Fayette, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties in Pennsylvania, as well as Eastern and Western Tucker and Eastern Preston counties in West Virginia. Communities such as Donegal, Terra Alta, and Canaan Valley are among those under the warning.

According to the National Weather Service, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes under these extreme conditions. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure, dress in multiple layers including hats, gloves, and face coverings, and take precautions to prevent water pipes from freezing.
