A bitter Arctic chill is gripping Nebraska, with dangerously cold wind chills forecast through noon Tuesday. Residents face temperatures as low as -25°F, posing serious frostbite risks within 30 minutes of exposure.

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, a cold weather advisory is in effect for northeast Nebraska, southwest Iowa, and nearby regions. Temperatures will drop to single digits, with wind chills falling between -25°F and -30°F. Prolonged exposure could lead to hypothermia, making precautions essential.

Wind chills on Sunday and Monday mornings will be the coldest, particularly along key routes like Interstate 80. Residents are urged to dress in layers, wear gloves and hats, and limit outdoor activities during the early hours.

By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will begin to rise slightly, reaching highs near 20°F. A light southwest wind will bring some relief, but Tuesday night will see lows dipping to around 13°F.

Looking ahead, a 20% chance of light snow is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with daytime highs climbing to the low 30s. Despite the warming trend, cold weather precautions should remain a priority.

Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before traveling, as icy patches may develop. Stay informed through the National Weather Service and local updates for changing conditions.
