Chicago, IL – Bitterly cold air will grip the city starting Saturday night, with wind chills plunging below zero through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chills could fall as low as -25°F Monday and Tuesday mornings. The coldest stretch is expected late Sunday night into Monday morning, with temperatures nearing -10°F and wind chills around -30°F.
The weather service has also warned of ice jams forming on area rivers and streams due to rapid ice development. This may lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas. Residents are urged to monitor river levels and take precautions.
Light rain is forecasted late Friday, transitioning into snow by Saturday night, with minimal accumulation expected. Lake-effect snow could create slick conditions in northeastern Porter County.
Officials advise limiting time outdoors, covering exposed skin, and dressing in layers. Frostbite and hypothermia risks remain high during this cold snap. Those traveling should prepare for hazardous conditions and check for updates.
