Eureka, CA – The National Weather Service in Eureka is tracking a brief but strong atmospheric river expected to impact Northern California mid-next week, bringing potential heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
According to forecasters, the highest rainfall totals are anticipated in Del Norte and Humboldt counties, where up to 3 inches of rain could fall between 4 a.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Thursday. The heaviest precipitation is likely on Wednesday, though forecast confidence remains moderate.
The NWS warns that the system could produce flooding in small streams and low-lying areas, as well as an increased risk of debris or rockslides on mountain roads. Drivers are urged to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially in coastal and hilly terrain.
While this atmospheric river is not expected to be prolonged, forecasters advise residents to stay tuned for updates as models refine rainfall timing and intensity.
