Las Vegas, Nevada – Drivers and residents in Nevada’s Eastern Sierra Slopes should prepare for up to 6 inches of new snow and hazardous travel through late Sunday morning, as a strong winter storm moves into the region.

According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Sunday for elevations above 6,000 feet, with the heaviest snowfall expected below 8,000 feet. The Sierra Crest could see totals reach 10 inches, and wind gusts may top 45 mph, creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Communities near Lee Vining, Bridgeport, and the California-Nevada border are expected to face the brunt of the storm. U.S. Route 395 and other mountain passes may become slick or impassable at times, especially overnight. Local emergency management urges travelers to avoid non-essential trips, keep extra blankets and food in vehicles, and charge cell phones ahead of the storm.

This marks the first significant late-April snowfall for the Eastern Sierra, similar to events seen in 2021. Residents should plan for possible delays and check road conditions before leaving home.

Hazardous road conditions are expected to last through Sunday morning, with additional advisories possible as the system progresses. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
