PENDLETON – The high desert sky glows pale before sunrise, calm but changing fast. By Monday, clouds will thicken over Eastern Oregon, signaling a wetter start to the first full week of November across Pendleton and the Columbia Basin.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a weak system slides in late Monday, followed by stronger rain chances on Tuesday and Wednesday. Light sprinkles may start Monday morning, but steadier rainfall develops later in the day as southerly winds push moisture inland. Some areas near the Blue Mountains could see the week’s heaviest totals, with up to a half inch possible through midweek.

Tuesday brings the best chance for widespread rain, accompanied by patchy fog and cooler highs in the mid-50s. Conditions will turn breezy at times, especially near I-84, where drivers should expect wet pavement and lower visibility in the passes. Rain continues through Wednesday before tapering by Thursday, leaving behind damp fields and crisp fall air.

Daytime highs will remain mild for early November, reaching the upper 50s to low 60s by midweek before dipping slightly toward the weekend. Nights stay cool, mostly in the upper 30s and low 40s, which could allow patchy fog and frost in sheltered valleys once skies clear again.

Forecasters say the current pattern fits a La Niña-type setup — cooler Pacific waters that often steer early winter storms into the Northwest. That means more moisture chances later this month, and possibly an early snow event in the Cascades before Thanksgiving.
