Pendleton, Oregon – A dangerous stretch of heat will grip much of eastern Oregon through 9 p.m. Tuesday, with temperatures soaring as high as 100°F in the Columbia Basin and surrounding regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a substantial high-pressure system is driving widespread heat across the region, prompting a Heat Advisory for the Columbia Basin, Kittitas Valley, Foothills of the Southern Blues, and parts of North Central Oregon. Highs between 95 and 100 degrees are expected Tuesday, with limited overnight relief.
Communities including Hermiston, Pendleton, The Dalles, and Heppner should prepare for increased risk of heat-related illness, especially among vulnerable populations. Officials urge residents to wear light-colored clothing, stay hydrated, and seek air-conditioned shelter during the hottest parts of the day.
This marks one of the season’s earliest significant heat events, with elevated heat risk rated at Level 3 out of 5. While a gradual cooling trend is expected later this week, heat safety remains critical through Tuesday evening.
More advisories may be issued if conditions persist beyond Tuesday night.
