Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas Heat Warning: Extreme Temperatures Ahead

Tulsa, OK – Dangerous heat is expected this afternoon across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. An Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory are in effect from noon to 9 PM today, with heat indices forecast to approach 111 degrees Fahrenheit in the warning areas and 108 degrees Fahrenheit in the advisory regions.

According to the US National Weather Service in Tulsa, the extreme heat poses a significant risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to take precautions if spending time outdoors. The heat index values are expected to reach up to 111 degrees, increasing the likelihood of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The weather service emphasizes the importance of practicing heat safety measures. People are urged to stay in air-conditioned environments, remain hydrated, and limit strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours. Employers are encouraged to ensure their workers take adequate breaks and have access to shade and water.

In addition, the National Weather Service advises residents to check on vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and pets, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses. For those without access to air conditioning, public cooling centers are recommended as a refuge from the extreme heat.
