Albany, NY – A late-season winter system is bringing a quick burst of wet snow to parts of eastern New York and western New England tonight into early Friday morning, with accumulations reaching up to 2 inches in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, light snow will develop as rain transitions during the evening hours of Thursday, April 10, and continue into the morning commute on Friday, April 11. Forecasters note that the snowfall is expected to accumulate primarily on grassy and cooler surfaces, especially in higher elevations like the southern Adirondacks, Catskills, and the southern Green Mountains.
Travelers should allow extra time for the Friday morning commute, as wet snow could reduce visibility and cause slick conditions, particularly in rural or elevated areas. Valley regions may see only light coatings or less than an inch of snow, while areas such as Albany, Glens Falls, Pittsfield, and Manchester could receive totals closer to 1 to 2 inches.
The National Weather Service reports a 40% to 60% chance of over 1 inch in higher terrain, while valley zones have a 20% to 40% chance of minor accumulation. Residents are advised to monitor local advisories and take caution during early morning travel.
