St. Louis, MO – On Saturday, the St. Louis region is expected to experience unhealthy air quality, particularly affecting elderly individuals, children, and those with heart or lung conditions. The US National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued an air quality alert due to relatively high levels of ozone.

According to the St. Louis Clean Air Partnership, the alert is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT today. The maximum ozone concentrations are anticipated to reach levels that pose a health risk, with ground-level ozone being a significant concern. This pollutant can lead to breathing difficulties for sensitive groups and exacerbate respiratory problems.

Residents are advised to reduce outdoor physical activity and take frequent breaks if they need to be outside. It’s also recommended to consider telecommuting, carpooling, or using public transportation to minimize exposure. The use of gasoline-powered lawn equipment should be avoided until late in the day to help improve air quality.

The weather forecast for the upcoming week shows high temperatures persisting in the region. Today, the high is expected to reach 92°F with a moderate air quality index of 56. Sunday and Monday will see temperatures rise to 97°F. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring slightly cooler temperatures, with highs of 94°F and 83°F respectively, and a chance of rain on Wednesday.

Residents are urged to stay informed about the latest air quality updates and take necessary precautions to protect their health. For more information, visit airnow.gov.
