Jackson, Ky. – Drivers across eastern Kentucky woke up to dense fog Thursday morning, with visibility dropping below a mile in areas like Jackson, Morehead, and London — a trend that could continue into the weekend alongside thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, patchy dense fog is expected to linger until around 10 a.m. Thursday, reducing visibility to as low as one mile or less. The fog adds to an incoming wave of storms forecast between Thursday afternoon and Saturday night, with some storms potentially producing torrential rainfall and strong wind gusts.

Cities including Hazard, Pikeville, and Prestonsburg may see heavy rain by Friday morning, with isolated storms possible into Friday evening. Friday night’s storms could be strong enough to impact outdoor events and travel plans. Calm winds are expected to shift northwesterly, gusting up to 15 mph by late Friday.

If you’re driving early, use low beams, slow down, and leave extra room between vehicles. Overnight storms may also bring ponding on roads, particularly along U.S. 23 and KY-15 corridors.

Storm chances taper off by late Saturday, but more alerts may follow. Stay tuned for updates as new advisories are issued.
