Jackson, KY – A significant weather shift is expected across Eastern Kentucky, starting Tuesday, with showers and thunderstorms impacting travel and daily activities. By midweek, a drop in temperatures may lead to a mix of rain and snow, creating hazardous conditions on roadways like KY-15.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a cold front will move into the region on Tuesday, bringing a 70-90% chance of rain and thunderstorms. Highs will remain mild, ranging from 65 to 70 degrees. However, gusty winds, up to 24 mph, could accompany the storms, making travel challenging.

On Wednesday, the chance of showers decreases to 30-50%, with temperatures dropping slightly to a high of 63 degrees. By Thursday, colder air will push into the region, leading to a rain-and-snow mix, particularly in the afternoon. Highs will struggle to reach 40 degrees, and overnight lows will plummet to 32. This could result in slick conditions on untreated surfaces.

Friday continues the wintry trend, with decreasing rain and snow showers in the morning, followed by partly cloudy skies. Highs will remain in the mid-40s, with lows dipping below freezing again.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather forecasts and take precautions, especially if traveling on highways or rural roads prone to icy conditions. Emergency kits, including blankets and water, are recommended for vehicles during this transitional weather pattern.

Prepare for changing conditions and monitor local advisories as Eastern Kentucky braces for a week of unpredictable weather.
