Jackson, KY – Residents in eastern Kentucky should prepare for light snow tonight, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions across the region. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday.
According to the advisory, up to two inches of snow are expected, particularly near and north of Interstate 64. Drivers should exercise caution as roads are likely to become slippery overnight, especially on untreated surfaces. Accumulations will taper off southward, but travel impacts are still anticipated throughout the advisory area.
Snow is predicted to begin after 10 p.m. Saturday, with lows dropping to 29°F. By Sunday morning, the snow will transition to scattered snow showers before clearing later in the day. Temperatures will rise to a high of 37°F Sunday, with calmer conditions expected by nightfall.
Residents are urged to allow extra travel time and monitor local road conditions before heading out. Authorities recommend reducing speed, keeping a safe distance from other vehicles, and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snow hours.
The rest of the week in Jackson promises quieter weather. Monday and Tuesday will be sunny, with highs in the mid-30s to low-40s, followed by a slight chance of rain late Wednesday. Nighttime lows will remain cold, hovering in the teens and low 20s.
Stay updated on road conditions and prepare accordingly for tonight’s winter weather. Drivers near I-64 and surrounding areas should remain vigilant and prioritize safety as snow accumulates.
