Davenport, Iowa – Scattered thunderstorms and a flood threat are set to sweep across the Quad Cities region late Monday, bringing a risk of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is in place for much of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, with a Moderate Risk (Level 4 of 5) northwest of the metro area. Storms could begin as early as Monday afternoon, but the greatest threat is expected overnight into Tuesday morning.
Clinton, Scott, Benton, and Iowa Counties are also under a Flood Watch beginning Monday evening as the Wapsipinicon River and Iowa River are projected to reach flood stage. Roads near Toronto and lower areas in Buena Vista may become impassable as water rises to 11 feet.
Drivers should avoid flooded roads, and residents are urged to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power outages. Spotter activation is not anticipated Sunday night but could be needed Monday.
Showers are expected to continue into Tuesday morning before conditions gradually improve. Additional advisories could be issued if the severe weather threat expands.
