Springfield, Ill. – Showers and thunderstorms will move into central Illinois this afternoon, bringing cooling temperatures and potential disruptions into Thursday. Eastern parts of the state, including Danville and Paris, should remain dry until late Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a slow-moving cold front will trigger rain chances across western and central Illinois beginning mid-afternoon. Temperatures will still climb into the mid to upper 80s before the front arrives. Rain becomes more widespread on Wednesday, with an 80% chance across much of the region, and highs falling to the low 70s.
Cities like Springfield, Decatur, and Lincoln could see storms arrive as early as 4 p.m. Tuesday, while areas farther east may not experience rainfall until closer to midnight. Overnight lows will dip into the 60s, and storm activity may bring localized flooding and gusty winds.
Residents should avoid travel during heavy downpours, secure outdoor items, and keep phones charged in case of power outages. While severe weather isn’t guaranteed, persistent rain may impact morning and evening commutes Wednesday and Thursday.
Storm chances continue through Thursday, with clearing expected by Friday. Cooler temps will stick around to close out the week.
