Denver, Colorado – A mild and breezy start to the week across Colorado will give way to a sharp late-week cooldown, with arctic air pushing daytime temperatures into the teens or even single digits across the eastern plains by Friday.
According to the National Weather Service office in Denver and Boulder, breezy conditions are expected today, especially in the foothills, with highs reaching the upper 40s to lower 50s across the Denver metro and nearby plains. Similar conditions are expected Wednesday before a series of cold fronts arrive late each afternoon into the evening.
By Thursday, colder air settles in along the I-25 corridor and across the plains, bringing noticeably lower daytime highs and much colder overnight lows. Forecasters say the coldest air arrives by Friday, when highs across eastern Colorado may struggle to climb out of the teens, with overnight lows dropping well below zero in some areas.
A chance of snow develops by Friday, though any accumulation is expected to remain light. Even minimal snowfall combined with bitter cold could lead to slick roads, especially during early morning and evening travel.
Residents are urged to prepare for the cold by protecting pets and pipes, limiting outdoor exposure late in the week, and monitoring updates as colder air locks in heading into the weekend.
