Tennessee residents should prepare for a challenging start to the week as a Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect Sunday. The advisory covers east Tennessee from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and includes areas near I-75, Jellico, and Oak Ridge.

According to the National Weather Service, up to one inch of snow and a quarter-inch of ice are expected. Roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick, making travel hazardous. Ice accumulation may also lead to power outages and tree damage. Motorists should avoid unnecessary travel and use extreme caution if driving is unavoidable.

Sunday’s high temperature is expected to hover around freezing, intensifying the risk of ice formation. Overnight temperatures will drop into the 20s, causing residual ice to remain through Monday morning.

The five-day forecast shows temperatures gradually warming into the mid-40s by Wednesday, but additional rain is expected mid-week. Residents should monitor weather updates and check road conditions via Tennessee’s 511 service.

For now, stock up on supplies, charge devices, and ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency kits. With slick roads and freezing conditions, preparation is key to staying safe.
