Orlando, Florida – Storms are expected to fire up across East Central Florida starting around 5 p.m. Saturday, bringing gusty winds, dangerous lightning, and localized flooding through the evening hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Level 1 severe storm risk is in effect for much of the region—including Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Port St. Lucie—until around 10 or 11 p.m. Gusts could reach 55 mph, with isolated peaks near 60 mph. A 5% chance of coin-sized hail exists, along with deadly lightning and heavy rainfall that may cause ponding on roads.
Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia counties are under the highest risk, along with parts of Brevard, Indian River, and Okeechobee counties. Afternoon highs reached 90°F in Orlando and Kissimmee, fueling instability. Rain chances remain elevated—up to 70%—in many cities.
Additionally, all Central Florida Atlantic beaches face a moderate risk of rip currents, especially dangerous with surf between 1 to 3 feet. Swimmers should heed lifeguards, beach patrols, and posted signs.
Storms may vary in timing due to wind shifts, but the threat window remains solidly between 5 and 10 p.m. Stay weather-aware and prepare for more alerts through the night.
