Pistol River, OR – A small earthquake shook the Oregon-California border region early Saturday, briefly rattling coastal communities.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck 8 km east of Pistol River, Oregon, at 3.8 km depth. The quake occurred at 11:13 p.m. PST Friday (07:13 UTC Saturday).
Shaking was weak, with no reported damage or injuries. The event occurred along the seismically active Cascadia Subduction Zone, which has a history of significant earthquakes.
Local residents who felt the tremor can report their experience to the USGS “Did You Feel It?” program. Scientists use this data to refine earthquake impact models.
Seismologists continue to monitor the region for aftershocks or additional seismic activity.
