Whites City, NM – A 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck south of Whites City early Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake hit at 12:37 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located about 60 kilometers southwest of the town. It originated at a depth of 7.1 kilometers. While mild, earthquakes of this magnitude can still be felt by those near the epicenter.
The USGS encourages residents to report any tremors they experienced through its “Did You Feel It?” platform. No damage or injuries have been reported so far, but experts remind the public to stay prepared for potential aftershocks.
Minor seismic activity is not uncommon in this region, which sits near fault lines capable of triggering occasional tremors. Local authorities advise residents to review emergency plans and secure loose items in their homes.
