Milwaukee, WI – Light snow is underway across southern Wisconsin early this morning, with the heaviest coverage currently south of Madison, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Milwaukee/Sullivan.

Radar and surface reports show snow reaching the ground from Dane County southward into Rock, Green, and Lafayette counties, with flakes beginning to spread east and northeast as the morning progresses. NWS expects this gradual expansion to continue, potentially affecting the Madison metro, portions of Jefferson County, and eventually areas farther east toward Milwaukee and Waukesha.

As shown in early-morning highway camera footage from I-39/90 at US Hwy 14, roads are beginning to show light snow coverage, and slick spots may develop—particularly on bridges, ramps, and untreated surfaces. Drivers heading out early should reduce speeds and allow extra time for the morning commute.

Snowfall amounts are expected to remain light, but even minimal accumulation can create hazardous travel when temperatures hover near freezing. Visibility may also briefly lower under steadier snow bands.

This event is part of a broader area of light precipitation lifting across the region, with no major accumulation expected. However, NWS advises residents to continue monitoring conditions as snow persists through the remainder of the early morning.

Travelers across southern Wisconsin should check local road conditions—especially those driving along major corridors such as I-39/90, US-14, I-94, and US-12.
