Carol Stream, IL – A local man has been charged in an alleged shooting that occurred at a hardware store parking lot with his child present.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Carol Stream Chief of Police Don Cummings announced today that Judge Susan Alvarado granted the State’s motion to detain Carlos Sanchez, 26, pre-trial. Sanchez, of the 800 block of New Britton Road, faces one count of Aggravated Battery – Discharge of a Firearm (Class X Felony) and one count of Misdemeanor Endangering the Health or Life of a Child.
On Thursday around 8:15 p.m., Carol Stream patrol units responded to Lowes Home Improvement on 400 W. Army Trail Road. Officers found a male victim with a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
Authorities report that the incident began with a road rage encounter near Army Trail Road and Kuhn Road. Sanchez allegedly followed the victim into the Lowes parking lot, where a verbal and physical altercation ensued, leading to the shooting. Sanchez’s six-year-old son was reportedly in the car during the incident. Sanchez was later arrested at his home without incident.
