Duluth, Minn. – Strong storms will sweep across northern Minnesota this afternoon through Saturday, bringing the threat of large hail, damaging winds, and even isolated tornadoes. Residents from Duluth to Minneapolis should brace for multiple rounds of severe weather, with the most intense storms possible late today and again Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, storms forming this afternoon will develop in conditions favorable for severe weather, including hail larger than an inch in diameter. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Areas south and east of Brainerd and Duluth face a 15–30% chance of severe storms, while the remainder of the region holds a lower but notable risk.

Heavy rain Saturday morning could trigger flash flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roads, and residents should secure outdoor items ahead of strong wind gusts.

The most dangerous storms are expected between 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday. Additional updates and possible warnings are expected as the system evolves.
