Denver, CO – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions to Colorado beginning Friday evening. Snow accumulation across the state could make roads treacherous, with totals ranging from 1 to 10 inches depending on the location.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin Friday evening and persist into Saturday afternoon. Areas near the foothills, including Boulder and Castle Rock, may see up to 8 inches of snow. Rocky Mountain passes, such as Rabbit Ears Pass and Berthoud Pass, are expected to receive the heaviest totals, between 4 and 10 inches. Winds gusting up to 30 mph could reduce visibility, particularly along I-25 and eastward.
Travelers are urged to plan accordingly, as slick roads and potential flash freezing could make driving hazardous. Those planning to commute Friday evening should expect delays and check road conditions by calling 511 or visiting cotrip.org.
This storm marks a significant shift in temperatures, with highs plummeting into the teens over the weekend. Saturday’s high will only reach 21°F, while nighttime lows will drop to -3°F in some areas. Residents should also prepare for additional snow Sunday night into Martin Luther King Jr. Day, when another round of light to moderate snowfall is forecast.
