Denver, Colorado – Travel across Colorado’s foothills and mountain valleys could grind to a halt Tuesday as a late-season snowstorm threatens up to a foot of accumulation by Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for multiple regions starting Tuesday, with the most intense snowfall expected Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday. Areas between 6,000 and 9,000 feet—including Estes Park, Evergreen, Georgetown, and Nederland—could see up to 12 inches of snow. Lower elevations in South Park, including Fairplay and Lake George, may receive 2 to 6 inches.

The snow will arrive in waves, beginning in South Park around 6 a.m. Tuesday, and reaching the northern and southern foothills by noon. Travel may become treacherous along Highways 285 and 36, especially after sunset as temperatures drop and accumulation increases.

Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor cotrip.org for live road conditions. Power outages are unlikely but possible in higher elevations—charge devices and have alternate heat sources ready.

The advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday, with further alerts possible if snowfall intensifies or spreads.
