Jackson, MS – Drivers in central Mississippi are being urged to exercise caution Tuesday morning as dense fog significantly reduces visibility on roadways. The National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 9 AM, warning of visibility dropping to one-quarter mile or less.
According to the National Weather Service, areas including Jackson, Meridian, and Brookhaven will experience challenging driving conditions due to the thick fog. Commuters are advised to slow down, keep headlights on low beams, and maintain ample space between vehicles.
The advisory impacts major routes such as I-20, I-55, and Highway 49, which could see reduced travel speeds during peak morning hours. Motorists are urged to plan for extra travel time and remain vigilant.
This advisory comes as seasonal weather patterns mix with lingering humidity, causing ideal conditions for dense fog formation overnight into early morning. Coastal and low-lying areas are expected to face the most significant impact.
Looking ahead, conditions are forecast to improve by late morning as the sun dissipates the fog. However, cooler overnight temperatures this week may bring additional fog risks through Thursday, especially in rural and water-adjacent regions.
Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service for any extensions or new advisories. With Christmas just a week away, keeping track of changing weather conditions will help ensure safe travels throughout the region.
