Lexington, Ky. – Early commuters across central Kentucky may face dangerous driving conditions Tuesday morning as dense fog blankets valleys and low-lying roads across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, calm winds, wet ground, and clearing skies have created ideal conditions for patchy but locally dense fog, especially near rivers and creeks. The fog is expected to linger until shortly after sunrise, with visibility dropping rapidly in some areas.
Drivers in cities like Elizabethtown, Bardstown, Richmond, and Bowling Green are urged to slow down, use low beams, and watch for sudden changes in visibility—particularly along rural highways and near Lake Cumberland, the Kentucky River, and other bodies of water.
The fog could impact portions of I-65, the Bluegrass Parkway, and U.S. Route 68, making early travel unpredictable. Emergency officials recommend leaving extra travel time and avoiding unnecessary trips until visibility improves.
Conditions are expected to improve quickly after 7 a.m., but updates will be shared through NOAA Weather Radio and local media throughout the morning. Visibility may remain variable until full daylight.
