Wilmington, DE – A 23-year-old Wilmington man was arrested early Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a car dealership in Wilmington. The Delaware State Police responded to a burglary at the Preston Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram dealership around 1:06 a.m.
According to Delaware State Police, troopers arriving at the dealership on Kirkwood Highway observed a man inside the showroom. They coordinated with New Castle County Police to secure the area, then ordered the man, later identified as Omar Martinez, to exit. Martinez initially complied but allegedly resisted arrest, prompting troopers to use a Taser to subdue him.
After the arrest, troopers found a hammer in Martinez’s backpack. Authorities believe he used the tool to smash a glass window to enter the dealership. Martinez faces several charges, including burglary, wearing a disguise during a felony, and resisting arrest.
Authorities arraigned Martinez at Justice of the Peace Court 11, setting an $8,000 unsecured bond. He was later released pending a court appearance.
